System Requirements
GRIA essentially comes in two parts: the client and the server. The GRIA client will run on any machine which is capable of running Java. For the GRIA server machine, it is recommended that the following hardware is used as the minimum specification:
- 1 GHz CPU
- 512 Mb RAM
- 1 Gb free disk space
The GRIA server will run on many operating systems. Currently, we provide documented instructions for installing GRIA on the following:
- SuSE 9.3 & 10.0
- Fedora Core 3 & 4
- Windows XP
GRIA has also been installed on RedHat and Debian with minor changes to the installation/configuration instructions (please contact GRIA support if you require assistance with these or other operating systems). However, our recommended platform to use is SuSE - this Linux distribution contains all of the prerequisites required for GRIA, is straightforward to maintain and patch, and is the platform that GRIA has undergone the most amount of testing with.
Whichever operating system you install the GRIA server on, the prerequisites are Tomcat and Java. The Basic Application Services package also require Perl.
The default execution of jobs is done locally, i.e. on the same machine as the GRIA server. However, GRIA includes a well defined & documented API to interface with resource managers. Working examples for PBS and Condor are provided with the GRIA server distribution.
